When Jim was entering middle
school his mother knew he needed special services in
order to succeed, and with the help
of the Council's
Educational Advocacy program she learned about Jim's
rights and she received the information and support she
needed. Later when Jim was ready, with special
assistance, to live and work in the community, the
Council's Government Affairs program was essential.
These strong advocates help make funding available for
specialized services for Jim and hundreds of others
throughout our community.
Bill is aging with grace,
but he needs help with a few chores that he used to be
able to do on his own. The Council's Citizen
Advocacy program finds, trains, and supports competent
volunteers to be matched with a person who can benefit
from having
a friend's help.
These are just a few of the
ways that the Council on Developmental Disabilities is daily
giving hope, vision, and voice to those in our community
with mental retardation. Throughout life, the
Council is there, ensuring that adults and children with
mental retardation are included, empowered, and valued
in our community.
